✨Wanderlust Update — Bread, New York & A Taste of Home ✨ 9/17/26

Sep 21

If you’ve already seen a few emails from me last week… well, that was New York City’s fault. My husband and I spent several days exploring the city — not the loud, tourist‑packed version, but the tucked‑away corners where locals live, breathe, and snack. The kind of places that never make it into a guidebook but absolutely should.

And honestly, that’s exactly the kind of tour I offer; intentional, curated, slow enough to inhale the moment, sit still, observe, and relax.

My goal is simple — you should never need a vacation after your vacation.

🥖 A Little Austrian Food Culture: Let’s Talk Bread

If you know Austrians, you know this: we LOVE our bread. Breakfast? Bread. Snacks? Bread. Life’s big questions? Bread.

It’s one of the first things I missed when I moved to the States — because Austrian bread is a whole different universe.

And here’s the fun part: while we were in NYC last week, THE bakery from Graz, Styria opened its very first location in the Big Apple. I was there for the opening (you can see it on my IG and FB reels), and let me tell you… the smell alone transported me straight home.

This bread is made with only three ingredients:

  • rye

  • water

  • a 47‑year‑old sourdough starter brought directly from Graz

Even the rye — and for now, the bakers — came from Austria. The result? Absolutely delicious. The price? Well… $60 for a 3.3‑lb loaf is a bit steep.

Or — hear me out — you could fly to Graz with me and enjoy the same bread for much less… and in its natural habitat.

🍽️ And What Goes On the Bread?

Oh, the toppings… Liptauer, Verhackert, Kürbiskernaufstrich, Grammelschmalz — my mouth is watering just typing this.

The heart of every good Brett’l Jaus’n is the bread that anchors it all. And yes, you can taste all of this on my next tour.

🎄 Join Me for the Christmas Market Tour

If you want to experience this bread, the culture behind it, and the joy of Graz during the holiday season, this is your invitation. Small group, intimate experience, and plenty of delicious moments.

Here’s the link for more details — and as always, reach out if you have questions: 👉 travellikealocaltours.com

My tours are small, intentional, and cozy — which also means they fill fast.
This is your gentle nudge: space is very limited, and the window to sign up is closing quickly. If this trip has been on your mind, now is the moment to reserve your spot before the group fills.
